7.75 Crore Kisan Credit Cards in Operation: Economic Survey 2024-25 Highlights Key Agricultural Reforms

The Economic Survey 2024-25, presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, outlines major advancements in India’s agricultural sector.

Kisan Credit Cards & Interest Subvention

As of March 2024, 7.75 crore Kisan Credit Cards (KCC) are operational with a total loan outstanding of ₹9.81 lakh crore. Additionally, 1.24 lakh KCCs were issued for fisheries and 44.40 lakh for animal husbandry. The Modified Interest Subvention Scheme (MISS) has processed ₹1 lakh crore in claims via the Kisan Rin Portal (KRP), benefiting 5.9 crore farmers.

Agricultural Credit & Financial Growth

Ground-Level Credit (GLC) has expanded at 12.98% CAGR, reaching ₹25.48 lakh crore in 2023-24, with 57% allocated to small and marginal farmers.

Crop Insurance & Farmer Support

The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) saw 4 crore farmers enrolled in FY24, covering 600 lakh hectares—a 26% and 19% increase from FY23, respectively. PM-KISAN has supported 11 crore farmers, while 23.61 lakh farmers have enrolled in the PM Kisan Maandhan Yojana (PMKMY) for pensions.

Food Security & Storage Infrastructure

Under NFSA & PMGKAY, 81.35 crore people receive subsidized food. The government is improving food grain storage with steel silos, smart warehouses, and Flospan mobile storage for remote areas.

Technology & Women Empowerment

The government is funding 15,000 Women SHGs with 80% subsidy on agricultural drones. e-NAM now has 1.78 crore farmers & 2.62 lakh traders registered.

These reforms drive a modern, self-reliant, and tech-driven agricultural sector.
