India’s First Makhana Board Announced in Bihar: A Big Boost for Farmers & Exports

Patna, 2nd Feb 2025 – In a major step to support India’s growing makhana (fox nut) industry, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the creation of the Makhana Board in Bihar during the Union Budget 2025-26. With a ₹100 crore budget, this initiative will transform makhana farming, boost exports, and improve processing facilities.
Why is the Makhana Board Important?
Bihar produces 90% of India’s makhana, yet farmers face challenges like low profits, lack of processing units, and limited market access. The Makhana Board aims to:
✅ Provide financial aid, subsidies & training to farmers
✅ Develop modern processing & storage units to increase profitability
✅ Improve export opportunities and position Bihar as a global leader in premium makhana
How Will This Benefit the Industry?
Right now, many farmers sell raw makhana at lower prices due to a lack of proper processing facilities in Bihar. The Makhana Board will change this by:
🔹 Setting up food processing hubs to retain more value locally
🔹 Enhancing storage & cold-chain infrastructure for better shelf life
🔹 Creating stronger market linkages and branding for Bihar’s makhana
A Step Towards #AtmaNirbharBharat
With makhana becoming a global superfood, this initiative supports #MakeInIndia and #VocalForLocal, promoting job creation, better farmer incomes, and a stronger agricultural economy.
This is a game-changer for India’s superfood industry—putting Bihar on the global map as a premium makhana hub. Stay tuned for more updates on #FoodInnovation & #AgriGrowth!
