A new report by Expert Reviews reveals how coffee consumption habits are shifting in the United States. As inflation drives up the cost of coffee shop visits, more Americans are turning to home brewing. The “US Coffee Consumption: Trends and Statistics 2024” report offers insights into how Americans are enjoying their coffee this year, highlighting key trends and preferences.

Home Brewing Gains Popularity

The report found that 80% of Americans drink at least one cup of coffee at home daily, a 10% increase since 2017. On average, consumers spend $75 annually on home coffee supplies. Drip coffee remains the most popular brewing method, favored by 45% of home drinkers.

The US leads the global coffee machine market, contributing $3.7 billion (29%) of the $12.63 billion market in 2024. With an annual growth rate of 2.63%, this market is projected to exceed $4.3 billion by 2030.

Coffee Shops Face Challenges

Despite 51% of Americans visiting coffee shops weekly, rising costs are influencing habits. Only 8% buy coffee daily, and 54% spend $20 or less monthly at coffee shops. The price of a coffee shop cup has increased by 23% over three years, impacting sales at major chains like Starbucks.
