Air India Updates Meal Policy to Respect Diverse Dietary Preferences

Air India has revised its in-flight meal policy to better accommodate the cultural and dietary preferences of its passengers. The airline will no longer serve halal-certified non-vegetarian meals to Hindu and Sikh passengers. However, passengers requiring halal-certified meals can still pre-book the “Muslim Meal” (MOML) option.

This change addresses feedback from various faith groups who viewed the mandatory provision of halal meals as insensitive to Hindu and Sikh dietary traditions. The updated policy ensures halal certification is limited to pre-booked MOML meals and all meals served on Saudi routes, including Haj flights.

The move has drawn mixed reactions. While some passengers applaud the decision as more inclusive, others have raised concerns about the preparation of meals to ensure quality and adherence to different dietary guidelines.

Air India emphasizes that the new policy aims to offer a respectful and inclusive dining experience for all travelers, reflecting the diverse cultural needs of its passengers.

By tailoring meal options, Air India seeks to enhance passenger satisfaction and cater to a variety of culinary preferences across its global network.
