FSSAI’s Mission: Training 2.5 Million Food Handlers by 2026

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has announced a bold target to train 2.5 million food handlers by March 2026. This initiative focuses on ensuring safe and hygienic food handling in places like college canteens, hostels, and universities, aiming to improve food safety nationwide.

Key Highlights of the 45th Central Advisory Committee Meeting

At the 45th Central Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting, chaired by FSSAI CEO G. Kamala Vardhana Rao, food safety surveillance took center stage. The meeting emphasized training Food Business Operators (FBOs) under the Food Safety Training and Certification (FoSTaC) program.

Enhanced E-commerce Surveillance

State food commissioners were urged to boost inspections at e-commerce warehouses. Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) will guide food storage and delivery safety, backed by Food Safety on Wheels mobile units for efficient sample collection.

Food Safety in Tourist Destinations

With tourism season approaching, FSSAI directed states to intensify food safety measures at popular destinations. Enhanced sampling, inspections, and consumer awareness campaigns will ensure visitors enjoy safe and hygienic food.

Collaborative Efforts for Better Food Safety

FSSAI called for an integrated food safety approach involving ministries, states, and stakeholders. Public initiatives like fairs, walkathons, and street plays under the Eat Right India movement aim to foster healthier eating habits.

Strengthening Global Food Safety

FSSAI is working closely with global regulators and preparing for the Global Food Regulators Summit 2024, aiming to align India’s food safety standards with international benchmarks.

By enhancing training, boosting surveillance, and engaging the public, FSSAI is setting a strong foundation for safer food practices across India.
