Nestlé Baby Products Comply with Indian Food Safety Standards, Says Health Minister.

Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda recently confirmed in the Lok Sabha that the added sugar content in Nestlé’s baby food products adheres to the Food Safety and Standards (Foods for Infant Nutrition) Regulations, 2020. This statement came in response to a query about the sugar levels in wheat-based baby products.

Earlier, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) had taken suo motu action after a Swiss NGO raised concerns about the added sugar in these products. In response, inspections were conducted at the manufacturing sites of infant food products on April 29 and 30.

After thorough evaluation, the findings showed that the sugar content in Nestlé’s baby products met the prescribed limits as per the regulations. These guidelines ensure that infant foods maintain nutritional standards that are safe for babies, supporting their growth and health.

This clarification from the Minister reassures food businesses and parents about the safety and quality of infant nutrition in India. It highlights the importance of compliance with food safety regulations to maintain consumer trust and uphold health standards.
